During an educational tour of the PG Bison Workshop and Showroom, woodwork students from SOS Technical Training Institute were given insights into how they could grow into an independent cabinet maker, and evolve into an SME in the furniture trade.

As he guided the students through the facility, Hitesh Mehta, the Product Specification Sales and Marketing Manager at PG Bison, explained, “With the right skills and training, there are endless opportunities in the furniture business.”

“All the apartments under construction in most parts of the city require fitted kitchen cabinets and wardrobes. The artisans benefiting most from this construction boom are those with the skills to work with MDF and particleboard as this is very different from using solid wood.”

“Once you have completed your Diploma in woodwork and carpentry, you can take advantage of the free training programme that PG Bison offers to carpenters to enable them to work with boards, panels, hinges and lift, and runner systems. We also show them the correct tools and jigs to use to assemble the wood panel parts into furniture which is appealing to the customer.”

Tirus Kangere, the SOS Technical Training Institute woodwork teacher termed the tour of PG Bison’s panel processing centre as an eye opener for his students. “The precision processing and the computerized machinery are both amazing. And the workmanship in the showroom displays has shown my students what they are capable of producing with the right skills.”
